My name is Chandler Roseen, and I am the Membership Vice President of the Delta Psi Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta at UCSB. When I came to UCSB as a freshman and decided to join a sorority, I had no idea how impactful the process would be. Formal recruitment is one of the most exciting and emotional experiences in sorority life, and the end result is so worth it! I can truly say that this process led me to find my home away from home and introduced me to some of the people I cannot imagine my life without. I wanted to find a support system that would be there for me when I was missing home or needed help in my classes. I had no idea that I would find sisters who would help to make me the best version of myself!
Whenever I am walking on campus and see one of my sisters’ smiling faces, it makes my day that much brighter. Gamma Phi has changed my college experience—from always having sisters to sit with in each of my classes, to watching The Bachelor in the chapter room every Monday night, to even taking a road trip down to Disneyland for the day. Joining a sorority has helped make UCSB feel so much smaller because everywhere I go, I know that I will see a Gphi!
In Gamma Phi, our philanthropic mission is “Building Strong Girls,” and with our volunteer work, officer leadership opportunities, academic support, and sisterhoods, I know that we are making this mission a reality and building our sisters up both in their victories and in their times of need. I am so proud to be involved in an organization that’s prime focus is empowering women. I look at my past two years in Gphi and think about how lucky I am to have so many amazing members around me. Our local chapter and international organization have provided our women with invaluable connections to Alumnae and opportunities for internships and careers.
Throughout the recruitment process, you may find yourself overwhelmed with all the new people you will meet and information being presented to you. My advice would be to keep an open mind without any preconceptions of sorority life at UCSB affecting your experience. If you trust the process, it will help you find your family. I know that I found mine in Gamma Phi, and I am so excited to show you through formal recruitment all the wonderful things Gamma Phi Beta can offer you too! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have!
